Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I do a First Aid Pro course in Hervey Bay?
We don’t currently run public courses at a permanent Hervey Bay venue. Fraser Coast learners have two practical options: (1) on-site group training at your workplace, school, or community group in Hervey Bay, Pialba, Urangan, Torquay, or surrounding suburbs — we send a trainer for groups of 8 or more, or (2) our Zoom blended first aid courses, where the theory and practical assessment can be completed remotely. Travelling to a Bundaberg public course (about 1.5 hours north) is also possible.
What does on-site Hervey Bay training look like?
For groups of 8 or more, our trainer travels to your venue with all manikins, AED trainers, and consumables. We deliver the full HLTAID009, HLTAID011, or HLTAID012 program at your site over a single day, and certificates are issued the same day. We’ve delivered on-site to Fraser Coast tourism operators, healthcare providers, schools, childcare centres, and aged care facilities. Contact us with team size, preferred date, and venue address for a quote.
Which Hervey Bay industries commonly require first aid certification?
The Fraser Coast economy is heavily tourism-driven and has a large aged-care sector. Tourism and hospitality (whale watching tour operators, Fraser Island / K’gari ferry and tour operators, hotels and resorts along the Esplanade — all need certified first-aiders for guest safety and remote-area work), water sports (Hervey Bay Marina charter operators, kayak and SUP operators), healthcare and aged care (Hervey Bay Hospital is a major regional hospital, and aged care is one of the Fraser Coast’s biggest sectors given the older demographic), education (USC Fraser Coast campus is in Hervey Bay, plus multiple schools), early learning (childcare centres across Hervey Bay, Pialba, Urangan, and Torquay all need HLTAID012 for ACECQA staff ratios), and retail (Hervey Bay Stockland Plaza, Pialba Place).
Are there Fraser Coast / Queensland compliance considerations?
Queensland workplaces are governed by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice. Marine tourism operators heading to K’gari (Fraser Island) and the broader Hervey Bay Marine Park require HLTAID011 at a minimum and many require HLTAID013 (Provide First Aid in a Remote or Isolated Site) for offshore work. Whale season (typically July–November) means heightened tourism activity and corresponding first-aid demand. Childcare staff in Hervey Bay must hold HLTAID012 to meet ACECQA’s National Quality Standard (Element 2.2.2).
Where's the nearest First Aid Pro venue if I want to attend a public course?
The closest First Aid Pro public-course venue from Hervey Bay is Bundaberg — about 1.5 hours north. Further south, Sunshine Coast venues including Noosaville, Maroochydore, and Caloundra are 2.5–3 hours away. For most Fraser Coast learners, on-site or Zoom delivery is the more practical path.
Can First Aid Pro come to Pialba, Urangan, K'gari (Fraser Island), or smaller Fraser Coast towns?
Yes — for group training of 8 or more we can deliver on-site across the Fraser Coast, including Hervey Bay, Pialba, Urangan, Torquay, Scarness, River Heads, and the broader Wide Bay region. We can also deliver on-site at K’gari (Fraser Island) tourism operations subject to logistics. Contact us for a tailored quote.
How long is my first aid certificate valid for?
CPR (HLTAID009) is valid for 12 months and should be refreshed annually as recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council. First Aid (HLTAID011) and Childcare First Aid (HLTAID012) are valid for 3 years, but the CPR component within them must still be renewed every 12 months. Tourism, marine, and aged care employers may set stricter renewal schedules.
Same-day certificate — how does that work?
After completing the online theory module before your on-site or Zoom practical, attending the practical session, and passing the assessment, your nationally accredited certificate is processed and emailed the same day. You can show it to your employer or compliance officer immediately.
Do I need a USI to enrol?
Yes. A Unique Student Identifier is required by federal law for any nationally accredited training. Create one at usi.gov.au in under five minutes using a driver’s licence, Medicare card, or passport. International students at USC Fraser Coast and working holiday visa holders can also obtain a USI.
Which course should I do — HLTAID009, HLTAID011, or HLTAID012?
HLTAID009 (CPR only, $45) is for those who already hold a current first aid certificate and just need their annual CPR refresh. HLTAID011 ($97) is the standard workplace first aid certificate and what most Fraser Coast employers ask for — it includes the CPR component. HLTAID012 ($119) is required if you work in childcare, early learning, or education. Marine, tourism, and Fraser Island workers should also consider HLTAID013 (Remote/Isolated Site).
