Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the First Aid Pro Northern Beaches course held?
Our Northern Beaches training venue is at Dee Why RSL, 932 Pittwater Road, Dee Why NSW 2099 — central to the Northern Beaches and accessible from Manly through to Avalon. The venue has on-site parking at the RSL. By bus, the B-Line and the L60, L62, L70, L80, L90 routes from Sydney CBD all stop on Pittwater Road within walking distance. The venue is single-level and wheelchair accessible.
What's around the venue for breaks and lunch?
Dee Why RSL itself has a bistro, café, and bar — a convenient on-site lunch option without leaving the venue. Westfield Warringah Mall is a 5-minute drive with a full food court, and the Pittwater Road dining strip stretches in both directions with cafés, takeaway, and restaurants. Dee Why Beach is a short walk if you’d like to step out to the coast on the longer break. Course breaks include 15–20 minutes plus a longer lunch.
Which Northern Beaches employers and industries commonly require first aid certification?
The Northern Beaches has heavy first-aid demand from a coastal and lifestyle-driven economy: tourism and hospitality (hotels, restaurants, and beach clubs across Manly, Dee Why, Collaroy, Narrabeen, Avalon — all need certified first-aiders for guest safety), water sports and surf services (surf schools at Manly, Curl Curl, Long Reef, Avalon; Surf Life Saving NSW clubs along the coast; SUP, kayak, and snorkel operators), healthcare and aged care (Northern Beaches Hospital is in Frenchs Forest, plus aged care providers across Brookvale, Dee Why, and Mona Vale), early learning (childcare centres across the LGA all need HLTAID012 for ACECQA staff ratios), education (multiple primary, high, and independent schools), and retail (Westfield Warringah Mall, Brookvale industrial-retail strip).
Are there Northern Beaches-specific compliance considerations?
NSW workplaces are governed by SafeWork NSW under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Code of Practice — First Aid in the Workplace. Surf, dive, and water-sports operators along the Northern Beaches coast should ensure first-aiders are trained for marine envenomation (bluebottles, rare jellyfish), surf-related injuries (dump injuries, drownings, dehydration), and remote-area response — operators on extended trips may need HLTAID013 (Provide First Aid in a Remote or Isolated Site) in addition to HLTAID011. Childcare staff must hold HLTAID012 to meet ACECQA’s National Quality Standard.
Are there other First Aid Pro venues nearby?
Dee Why is our main Northern Beaches venue. The next closest First Aid Pro venues are Hornsby on the upper North Shore (~25 minutes via the Spit Bridge or Wakehurst Parkway), Greenwich on the Lower North Shore (~25 minutes), and North Ryde (~25–30 minutes via the M2). Sydney CBD is around 30–40 minutes via the Spit Bridge or B-Line. All First Aid Pro NSW venues run the same nationally accredited courses with identical pricing.
Can First Aid Pro deliver on-site training for Northern Beaches businesses?
Yes — we deliver group on-site training across Manly, Dee Why, Brookvale, Collaroy, Narrabeen, Mona Vale, Avalon, Palm Beach, and the entire Northern Beaches LGA. Our trainers come to your venue — surf school, hotel, childcare centre, school, medical practice, or office — and bring all manikins, AED trainers, and consumables. On-site is well-suited to coastal hospitality groups and surf-school networks needing to certify multiple staff in one session. Contact us for a quote.
How long is my first aid certificate valid for?
CPR (HLTAID009) is valid for 12 months and should be refreshed annually as recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council. First Aid (HLTAID011) and Childcare First Aid (HLTAID012) are valid for 3 years, but the CPR component within them must still be renewed every 12 months. NSW Health, NDIS, surf-club, and tourism employers may set stricter renewal schedules.
Same-day certificate — how does that work?
After completing the online theory module before the in-person session, attending the practical day, and passing the assessment, your nationally accredited certificate is processed and emailed the same day. You can show it to your employer or compliance officer immediately.
Do I need a USI to enrol?
Yes. A Unique Student Identifier is required by federal law for any nationally accredited training. Create one at usi.gov.au in under five minutes using a driver’s licence, Medicare card, or passport.
Which course should I do — HLTAID009, HLTAID011, or HLTAID012?
HLTAID009 (CPR only, $45) is for those who already hold a current first aid certificate and just need their annual CPR refresh. HLTAID011 ($97) is the standard workplace first aid certificate and what most Northern Beaches employers ask for — it includes the CPR component. HLTAID012 ($119) is required if you work in childcare, early learning, or education. Surf-school, water-sports, and remote tourism operators should also consider HLTAID013 (Remote/Isolated Site).
