Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the First Aid Pro Byron Bay course actually held?
The closest First Aid Pro venue for Byron Bay learners is at 4 Minjungbal Drive, Tweed Heads South NSW 2486 — about 1 hour north of Byron Bay via the Pacific Motorway. Free on-site parking is available at the venue. By bus, the Northern Rivers Buslines and TransLink services connect through Tweed Heads South. The venue is single-level and wheelchair accessible. For Byron locals, on-site delivery and Zoom blended courses are also strong alternatives — see below.
What's around the venue for breaks and lunch?
The Tweed Heads South venue sits in a bustling commercial precinct close to Tweed City Shopping Centre — a 5-minute drive — with a full food court, supermarkets, cafés, and takeaway. The Minjungbal Aboriginal Cultural Centre and the Tweed River foreshore are nearby for outdoor breaks. Course breaks include 15–20 minutes plus a longer lunch.
Which Byron Bay-area employers and industries commonly require first aid certification?
Byron Bay has one of NSW’s most certificate-heavy tourism economies. Hospitality and accommodation (boutique hotels, eco-resorts, restaurants, and beach clubs across Byron Bay, Suffolk Park, and Lennox Head all need certified first-aiders for guest safety), water sports and surf services (surf schools at Main Beach, Wategos, Lennox Head; SUP, kayak, and snorkel operators; Surf Life Saving NSW clubs), wellness and yoga retreats (a major Byron industry — retreat operators, yoga and meditation studios, sound-healing practitioners often need HLTAID011 under their insurance), event production (Bluesfest, Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival require event-medical and first-aider staffing), early learning (childcare centres across Byron, Suffolk Park, Bangalow, Mullumbimby, and Ballina all need HLTAID012 for ACECQA staff ratios), and healthcare (Byron Central Hospital).
Are there Byron / Northern Rivers compliance considerations?
NSW workplaces are governed by SafeWork NSW under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011. Surf, dive, and water-sports operators on the Byron coast should ensure first-aiders are trained for marine envenomation (bluebottles), surf-related injuries (dump injuries, drownings), and remote-area response — operators on extended trips should consider HLTAID013 (Provide First Aid in a Remote or Isolated Site) in addition to HLTAID011. Music festival and large-event operators have additional medical-staffing requirements under their event approvals. Childcare staff in Byron must hold HLTAID012 to meet ACECQA’s National Quality Standard (Element 2.2.2).
Is on-site or Zoom delivery a better option for Byron Bay locals?
Often, yes. For groups of 8 or more, on-site delivery in Byron Bay or surrounds is usually more practical than the 2-hour round trip to Tweed Heads. We can deliver at hotels, retreats, schools, surf schools, festival production companies, and community groups — our trainer brings all equipment. For individuals, our Zoom blended first aid courses let you complete the theory and practical assessment remotely. Both options use the same nationally accredited curriculum.
Are there other First Aid Pro venues in the region?
Tweed Heads (~1 hour north — same venue as listed above) is the closest. North into Queensland, Gold Coast, Robina, and Southport are alternatives if you’re heading north for other reasons. South, Port Macquarie is around 4 hours. All First Aid Pro venues run the same nationally accredited courses with identical pricing.
How long is my first aid certificate valid for?
CPR (HLTAID009) is valid for 12 months and should be refreshed annually as recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council. First Aid (HLTAID011) and Childcare First Aid (HLTAID012) are valid for 3 years, but the CPR component within them must still be renewed every 12 months. Tourism, hospitality, surf-school, and event-production employers may set stricter renewal schedules under their insurance or licensing requirements.
Same-day certificate — how does that work?
After completing the online theory module before your in-person, on-site, or Zoom practical, attending the practical session, and passing the assessment, your nationally accredited certificate is processed and emailed the same day. You can show it to your employer or compliance officer immediately.
Do I need a USI to enrol?
Yes. A Unique Student Identifier is required by federal law for any nationally accredited training. Create one at usi.gov.au in under five minutes using a driver’s licence, Medicare card, or passport. Working holiday visa holders can also obtain a USI.
Which course should I do — HLTAID009, HLTAID011, or HLTAID012?
HLTAID009 (CPR only, $45) is for those who already hold a current first aid certificate and just need their annual CPR refresh. HLTAID011 ($97) is the standard workplace first aid certificate and what most Byron-area employers ask for — it includes the CPR component. HLTAID012 ($119) is required if you work in childcare, early learning, or education. Surf, retreat, and event-staff operators should also consider HLTAID013 (Remote/Isolated Site).
