White Card Course Overview
Through CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry in South Australia you’ll learn everything about Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) for the construction industry. By the end of the day you’ll be equipped with the basic knowledge to perform the following construction work tasks:
- Recognise and report construction hazards
- Understand the importance of hazard and risk control measures
- Identify different safety signs and symbols
- Choose the most appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including high-visibility vests and eye protection
- Demonstrate personal awareness in potentially dangerous situations
- Undertake risk management duties
- Understand your duty of care on a construction site
- Perform safety communication to others
- Deliver emergency response procedures
- Communicate simple safety instructions and emergency response procedures
- Recognise your safety legislative requirements and other safety regulations
Upon successful completion of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry students receive a same day statement of attainment and a white card.
Eligibility Criteria
There are no academic requirements or work experience is necessary to enrol in CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry. All students must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Reside in the state of South Australia
- Students must be 14 years old or older. (Please note: Students under 18 will be required to complete and bring a Parental Consent Form to class)
- Be capable of effective verbal communication by asking questions to clarify instructions and pointing out a construction problem or hazard
- Possess basic English literacy skills to read and follow simple pictorial safety instructions and instructions written in English
- Possess basic numeracy skills
- Provide vaild identification as per the Evidence of Identity Requirements

On the day of their training course, students must allow for a photo to be taken of themselves which includes their head, neck, and shoulders.

Upon successful completion of this WHS induction course students are awarded their nationally recognised statement of attainment.

How Long Does It Take to Get a White Card?
The duration of white card training varies, but at First Aid Pro our programs are efficient, effective, and can be completed only one (1) day.
Is This An Online White Card Course?
No, there is no online training. Our course uses a face-to-face training session that will ensure you have the practical skills and knowledge to work in the construction industry.
Who Needs a White Card?
In Australia all individuals employed in the construction industry must have a white card. This is a legal obligation that promotes safe working construction sites.
How do I get a replacement white card?
If your white card is lost or damaged you can request a replacement card by contacting us. Depending on where you are located, the following applies:
- South Australia – Contact us for a replacement. A $50 fee applies.
- Northern Territory – You must apply directly with the NT Government within 60 days of course completion. Visit this link for more information.
If you are located in the Northern Territory and do not apply for your replacement White Card from your state government within 60 days of course completion, you will require a letter from First Aid Pro stating that you have completed the course to apply. *Please Note: We will issue a letter for students only up to 4 months after the completion of the white card course. If over 4 months have lapsed, you will be required to attend the White Card Course again at full price.
