What Affects the Price of a First Aid Course in Brisbane?
Three things set the price of a first aid course in Brisbane: the course level, the delivery format and what’s included. GST rarely changes the figure, because first aid courses delivered by an RTO are generally GST-free.
Course Level: CPR, First Aid or Childcare First Aid
HLTAID009 Provide CPR is the entry-level course and usually costs the least. It covers adult, child and infant CPR and how to use an AED.
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid includes CPR (HLTAID009) and basic emergency life support (HLTAID010), as the Queensland Ambulance Service course page lists. It adds the DRSABCD action plan, plus bleeding, burns, fractures, asthma, anaphylaxis, shock, stroke, seizures and more.
The HLTAID011 unit on training.gov.au has been current since its first release on 16 October 2020. It replaced HLTAID003 and applies to community and workplace settings.
HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting is the childcare course, and it costs more than HLTAID011. If you work in childcare, check ACECQA’s approved qualifications list before you book.
Delivery Format and Class Time
In our comparison, the longest classroom courses carry the highest prices. The Queensland Ambulance Service runs an 8-hour face-to-face HLTAID011 class, including a 30-minute lunch break.
At First Aid Pro, HLTAID011 comes in four formats:
- Face-to-face: 5 hours in class, with no online learning.
- Blended: online theory, then a 3-hour practical.
- Express: online theory, then a 2-hour practical assessment.
- 100% online via Zoom: $165, listed on our national course page.
Shorter classes usually mean more study at home before you arrive. Australia Wide First Aid, for example, asks you to allow up to 6 hours of e-learning before a 4-hour practical. When you compare prices, count both parts.
Inclusions and Policies
The extras attached to a price can matter as much as the price itself. Check these before you book:
- Certificates issued same day* (T&Cs apply) at First Aid Pro.
- Price guarantees, such as our 10% price-beat, Australia Wide First Aid’s 10% price beat and CBD College’s price match.
- Booking discounts, such as the Queensland Ambulance Service’s 10% off for online booking and 5% off for students and pensioners.
- Payment terms. At First Aid Pro, you pay upfront during the online booking process.
The Queensland Ambulance Service applies the same discount structure to its HLTAID009 CPR course fees.
GST
An ATO interpretative decision (ATO ID 2003/1036) indicates that first aid courses delivered by an RTO are GST-free education. Some providers state this in their pricing, such as Allens Training’s “$120 (GST free)”.

| Australian Red Cross | From $195 (one day, national price) | From $85 | One day, no online learning |
Most Brisbane providers sit in the $95 to $129 band for HLTAID011. The Queensland Ambulance Service and Australian Red Cross sit at the premium end.
Our standard $97 price is lower than St John’s half day, Allens Training, Australia Wide First Aid, the Queensland Ambulance Service and Red Cross. CBD College advertises $95, which is $2 less than ours.
How to Read This Table
- Compare like-for-like formats, such as a full classroom day against another full classroom day.
- Count pre-learning time, because shorter classes often need online study first.
- Check what’s included, such as same-day certificates, discounts and price guarantees.
- Treat Red Cross figures as national “from” prices, since Brisbane session prices weren’t verified.
If you want a cheap first aid course in Brisbane, look past the headline number. A lower price with 6 hours of e-learning may cost you more time than a slightly dearer classroom course.
The Queensland Ambulance Service runs Brisbane-area classes at venues including Woolloongabba, Chermside, Wynnum and Beenleigh.
CPR prices follow the same pattern. Advertised HLTAID009 prices ran from $45 to $86.51, with the Queensland Ambulance Service at the top for a 3.5-hour class.

Our Brisbane CBD venues are at Level 4 and Level 8, 117 Queen Street, and Level 1, 345 Ann Street. We also train across Greater Brisbane / South-East Queensland, including Chermside, Indooroopilly, Carindale, North Lakes, Ipswich, Logan and Springfield.

Budgeting for Team First Aid Training
A 40-person office can cover first aid for $194 in year one and $90 a year after that, using our standard prices. Your own figure depends on your risk level and headcount.
How Many First Aiders You Need
WorkSafe Queensland’s Code of Practice recommends these ratios:
- One first aider for every 50 workers in low-risk workplaces, such as offices, shops and libraries.
- One first aider for every 25 workers in high-risk workplaces.
- One first aider for every 10 workers in remote high-risk workplaces.
These ratios are recommendations in an approved code. Your legal duty is to have an adequate number of trained first aiders. Courts may treat the Code as evidence of what’s known about a hazard, so do a risk assessment and record your reasoning.
As a minimum, the Code says first aiders should hold a nationally recognised Provide First Aid Statement of Attainment from an RTO.
Worked Example: A 40-Person Office
- At the 1:50 low-risk ratio, 40 workers need at least 1 first aider.
- You might train 2 so leave and sick days don’t leave you uncovered.
- Year one: 2 × $97 = $194 for HLTAID011, which includes CPR.
- Years two and three: a CPR refresher costs 2 × $45 = $90 a year.
- Year four: renew HLTAID011, as the Code recommends every three years.
That’s $374 over three years at standard prices.
The maths changes on a high-risk site. With 60 workers at the 1:25 recommendation, you’d need at least 3 first aiders, or 3 × $97 = $291 in year one.
Onsite Group Training
If you’d rather keep staff on site, our trainers come to you. Onsite training suits groups of 5 to 24 participants.
There are “No upfront costs – invoice issued after training”. Ask us for onsite pricing for your group.
Hidden Costs and Ways to Save
The course fee is only part of your cost. Budget for your USI, your time, travel and future renewals.
Your USI
A Unique Student Identifier is free. It’s a 10-character code of numbers and letters, and you can create your free USI online. Without one, you won’t receive your Statement of Attainment, so set it up before class.
Time Off Work and Travel
A 5-hour face-to-face course takes up most of a working day, while express takes 2 hours. Our Brisbane CBD venues are easy to reach by public transport, with parking nearby. CBD venues suit you if you work in the city, and suburban venues may suit you if you drive.
Refreshers and Rebooking
Diary your renewal dates so your team stays current. For your yearly CPR update, the HLTAID009 express CPR refresher takes 1 hour in class.
Tax Deductions for Employees
If you’re an employee, the course may be deductible when it maintains or improves skills you need in your current job. You can’t claim it if your employer reimburses you. Read the ATO self-education expense rules, keep your receipts, and check with the ATO or a tax adviser before you claim.
Business owners paying for staff training should check with an adviser, as different rules may apply.

How Long Does a First Aid Certificate Last in Queensland?

These are recommendations rather than fixed legal deadlines, so check whether your employer or industry sets its own rule.
Can I Claim My First Aid Course on Tax?
Possibly, if you’re an employee and the course maintains or improves skills you need in your current job. The ATO says you can’t claim a self-education expense that’s reimbursed or only generally related to your work. Keep your receipts, and check with the ATO or a tax adviser before you claim.
Is a Cheaper First Aid Course Still Nationally Recognised?
Yes, if an RTO delivers it and you receive a Statement of Attainment for HLTAID011 Provide First Aid. The national training register, training.gov.au, lists HLTAID011 as a current unit for community and workplace settings. WorkSafe Queensland’s Code of Practice names this RTO-issued qualification as the recommended minimum for workplace first aiders.
Do I Need a USI to Do a First Aid Course?
Yes. The USI Office says you can’t receive your Statement of Attainment without a Unique Student Identifier. It’s free to create at usi.gov.au and stays with you for life.
How Many First Aiders Does My Workplace Need in Queensland?
WorkSafe Queensland’s Code of Practice recommends one first aider per 50 workers in low-risk workplaces and one per 25 in high-risk workplaces. Remote high-risk workplaces should have one per 10 workers. The legal duty is to have an adequate number of trained first aiders, so base your number on a risk assessment.
